Airless sprayers or HVLP sprayers are commonly used to coat items such as furniture or vehicles that require a clear topcoat (such as urethane). The combination of urethane and its sprayed surface is a durable coating. This also necessitates proper cleaning because if the polyurethane is dried internally, tools such as garden spray guns that apply polyurethane will become clogged and useless. Use solvent and make sure to clean each part of the gun.
Empty the garden spray gun cup or bottle. If you have one, you can put the unused urethane back into the original container or put it in a waste paint can for later disposal. Paint products should be taken to a chemical recycling center or paint distributor for disposal.
Pour the solvent into the bottle and shake it inside. Reinstall the bottle on the sprayer. Wear a mask and gloves and spray the gun for about a minute in a well ventilated area. Spray with a piece of cardboard and note that the spray becomes clear when the solvent is completely passed.
Remove the air cap from the front of the garden spray gun. You should be able to unscrew it with your fingers. Soak it in a solvent and clean it with a bristle brush. Place the lid on a clean cloth to dry.
Use the multi-purpose wrench tool included with the garden spray gun to remove the nozzle. Pulling the trigger while removing the trigger retracts the fluid needle and makes it easier. Immerse it in a solvent and clean it with a brush, then let it dry.
Unscrew the bottle with a multi-purpose wrench and pull the filter out of the connector. Hold the garden spray gun on the container and pour the solvent into the filter hole. Use a brush to clean the area, the fluid needle on the front of the gun and all other corners and gaps in the gun itself.
Rinse the gun with a cleaning solvent and allow it to dry. If you have a compressor, you can use compressed air to dry the gun, or wipe it carefully with a clean cloth and let it air dry. Reassemble the gun after it is completely dry and store it for future use. less
